CamFly Films FAQs
We fly state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) that can capture inspiring video of a wide variety of locations and attractions. Below are some of the frequently asked questions about Aerial Video. If you don’t find the answer to your question, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
Are you licensed and qualified?
Yes. Our pilot is Remote Pilot Qualified (RPQ) and licensed by the CAA to operate UAVs for commercial use.
Are you insured?
Yes. We have public liability insurance for up to £5 million.
What equipment do you use?
We have two complete UAV systems.
Our budget solution employs a GoPro HD camera attached to a DJI Phantom II quad-copter. This is a small system that requires only a single operator. It’s quick to launch and produces some beautiful images in full HD.
Our high-end solution uses the latest 4K Lumix GH4 camera and is mounted on a DJI S900 Hexacopter. This state-of-the-art equipment produces some stunning video and is operated by a qualified pilot and a separate camera operator.
Does the weather affect flying?
Yes. Aerial video is very much affected by the weather, so some flexibility is required when making a booking.
We cannot for example fly in the rain or when it is too windy. Beyond that it is also worth considering that aerial video simply looks better when the sun is out!
Are there any limitations with flying UAVs?
Apart from the weather (see above), there are other factors that need to be considered before flying. Most of these revolve around safety requirements; heavily built up areas, electricity masts, air traffic restrictions and members of the public in the vicinity etc. When you make a booking our first task is to perform a full risk assessment on the location and let you know any restrictions we may have at the shoot. Occasionally, we may need to visit the site prior to the shoot to carry out a risk assessment.
Can you shoot indoors?
Yes. We can shoot in large indoor spaces with permission from the owner.
What are the advantages of UAVs over say helicopters?
UAVs have several advantages over tradition aerial video shot from helicopters. For a start, UAVs are a lot more cost effective. In addition, UAVs can fly straight from the ground and go up to 400 feet high. Helicopters, by contrast must usually stay above 500 feet. UAVs also allow for some interesting possibilities such as low flying over landscapes and water and are much more maneuverable than larger craft.
Can you give me an idea of pricing?
We have two price points depending on the equipment we use:
- GoPro/Quad-copter rig pricing starts at £450 Half Day/£600 full Day with one operator.
- The GH4 4K camera plus Hexacopter rig pricing starts at £950 for a full day and two operators.
If you are unsure which setup is best for your requirements, contact us and we can discuss the advantages of each.
Both pricing points depend partly on the particulars of the requirements. Pricing does not include travel costs or accommodation if needed.
We also require a 30% deposit upon booking.
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
We are happy to reschedule due to inclement weather for no extra charge. We normally assess the weather in the area of the shoot both the day before and in the morning of the shoot and advise accordingly.
Client Cancellations forfeit the deposit but a credit note is established.
